YoGems Emerging Players’ Dehradun District Badminton Championship Kicks off to a great start!

District Badminton Association Dehradhun and YoGems are organising a two-staged District Ranking Badminton Tournament at the Badminton Court, Parade Ground, Dehradun from today, May 5th to May 8th, 2018. This tournament is supported by the Uttarakhand State Badminton Association (USBA). The opening ceremony was held today at Parade Ground after which the event was inaugurated by Mr. Ashok Kumar (IPS) ADG Police & President, USBA.

The first stage, known as the ‘Emerging Players Ranking Badminton Tournament’ is scheduled to take place from today till May 7th, 2018. It is being conducted with a unique concept where non-BAI ID players will first get to play with others at their own skill level. The top players from the ‘Emerging Players Ranking Badminton Tournament’ would get to play in the ‘Elite Players Ranking Tournament’ consisting of only the BAI ID holders from the district to be held from May 7th – 8th, 2018 at the same venue.

Around 300 players from over 70 schools are taking part in the ‘‘Emerging Players Ranking Badminton Tournament’ while more than 200 players are scheduled to take part in the ‘Elite Players Ranking Tournament’ to be held afterwards.

On the first day, matches were held for under 13, under 15, under 17 age groups for both boys and girls in Singles category. In the GS U15 category, Palak Manral beat Siddhi Rawat 15-9, 15-11 to make it to the final. In the other semifinal, Astha Bhore beat Nyasha Singh 13-15, 15-6, 15-11 to book her place in the final. In the GS U17 category, Aditi Choudhary, Palak Manral, Saumya Singh and Aadita Chauhan have made it to the semifinals. In BSU13, Tarun Pant, Rajdev Tomar, Shashank Rana, Nitya Malik, Yuvraj Panwar and Ishaan Negi have made it to the Round of 16. In BS U15 competition, Mohd Zabih, Swastik Jugran, Mayank Lohani, Abhyuday Joshi, Arnav Kashyap, Rishabh Gusain, Pardeep Singh and Nishant Rana have reached the Round of 16. Those who have won their respective matches will progress to the advanced rounds to be played on the next day. In addition, the matches for under 9 and under 11 age groups for both boys and girls will also be played tomorrow.

This tournament is completely digital on the line of Digital India. Players are being able to check score live on their mobile phone or computers. Umpires are using high tech scoring devices to digitally capture match cores. Draws and Match list are being updated in real time at www.YoGems.com. This is a completely paperless tournament with electronic score display available at the venue.
