Witness the inspiring journey of Hima Das from Assam’s rice fields to become India’s solo gold medalist on the track
Hima Das from a remote village in Assam sprinted her way to become one of the most inspiring sports icons in the present scenario. The wonder girl from the remote village in Assam succeeded the ace position in the record time period of 18 months. Raised as any common village local girl, Hima’s father still works in Assam’s rice field.
All credit of foreseeing Das’s capability demands an appreciation of her spirited coach Nipon. He channelized the stamina and power of young and bold Das in the right direction. Recalling his memory after Hima’s phenomenal 400m sprint, Nipon explained the moment when he first saw young Hima Das playing football in the mud with local village boys. He was very sure even before offering a training session to her, that the girl will surely achieve something big in her life.
Das was amongst the tournament favorite star even before the start of semifinal rounds. By securing gold at World U20 championship in Finland, Hima becomes first Indian athlete to secure a gold medal in any Senior or Junior level global tournament in the sprint. With her win, Das now enjoys positioning amongst elite athletics at just tender age. She is now part of the hall of fame along with great names such as Seema Punia (discus throw), Neeraj Chopra (Gold, Javelin Throw) and Navjeet Kaur Dhillon with a bronze medal in the discus throw.
