Weightlifting Contingent all set to win gold in the Gold Coast

India has always been a country to contend with at the Commonwealth Games. It is 3rd on the all-time medals table with 115 medals including 38 gold. This is also the first time in history that athletes had to qualify for the Games. Only one athlete has been granted participation per country in each of the weight categories.
Sathish Kumar Sivalingam would be the one everyone keeps an eye on. The 25-year-old had won the 77kg gold in the Glasgow Games in 2014. Some interesting facts about the competition:
} The weightlifting event consists of 2 separate performances- The Snatch and the Clean and Jerk. The combined total of these two are calculated to determine the ranking.
} It will be the first time in history that the number of events for women and wen would be the same at an international meet.
} The event would take place at the Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre in Gold Coast, Australia.
} A total of 226 athletes would be vying for 16 Gold medals at the Games.
