India defeated West Indies by 125 runs to register their fifth win in six games at Old Trafford in Manchester on Thursday. The win also saw Kohli become the first Indian captain to remain unbeaten in his first five matches in the World Cup.

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami led another sterling bowling effort as India inch one step closer to the semi-finals of the 2019 Cricket World Cup. India now have 11 points while West Indies with 3 points from 7 matches are out of the semi-finals race.

Before this win, India had won four of their 1st five matches in the World Cup. Indian Cricket Team had defeated South Africa, Australia, Pakistan, and Afghanistan whereas their match against New Zealand was washed out.

Team India had started their campaign with a thumping win over South Africa at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton on June 5, after a six-day wait. Rohit Sharma steered India to a 6-wicket victory after Yuzvendra Chahal and Jasprit Bumrah restricted South Africa to 227 for 9.

In their second match of World Cup 2019, India brushed aside defending champions Australia by 37 runs at The Oval to make it two wins in a row on June 9. India’s next encounter against New Zealand was called off without a ball being bowled due to relentless rain in Nottingham on June 13.

After the washout against New Zealand, India headed to Manchester to face arch-rivals Pakistan in the most anticipated clash of World Cup 2019. Rohit Sharma hit 140, Virat Kohli smashed 77, KL Rahul made 57, Kuldeep Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Vijay Shankar picked crucial wickets as India crushed Pakistan by 89 runs(DLS) on June 16 at the Old Trafford to extend their unbeaten streak against Pakistan in World Cup history.

India managed to scrape through in their next group clash Afghanistan. Considered the favourites to win the tie, India were in a spot of bother after Afghan spinners restricted them to 224/8 in their 50 overs. But an impressive showing by the bowlers, including a hat-trick by Mohammed Shami helped India to win by a narrow margin of 11 runs.
