Braving cold and nippy conditions, participants from Tamil Nadu gave their best on the second day of the 19th All India Inter-Agricultural Universities Games being held at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today.

In women’s section, students from Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TNVASU), Chennai, stunned their opponents in athletic events.

C Sri Vidhya proved her mettle to clinch top honours in the high jump event while her companion, M Priya stamped her superiority in javelin event.

In high jump, L Khonzani Ezung of Central Agricultural University, Lamphelpat in Imphal and Krishnakavith AKS of Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University (KVAFSU), Bidar secured second and third position, respectively.

In javelin throw, Jayashri of KVAFSU, Bidar fetched a silver medal whereas Kriti Dwivedi of Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur bagged a bronze medal.

Meanwhile, in men’s section, Amit of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University( CCSHAU), Hisar, finished ahead of others in the 100-m sprint to emerge as the fastest runner. Yugvinder, also from the CCSHAU, Hisar, and Ram Datt of CSAUAT, Kanpur, finished at the second and third position, respectively.

In women’s category, Mehakpreet Kaur Randhawa of the PAU, finished as runner-up in the 1,500-m race in which Aarushi of the CCSHAU, Hisar, came out triumphant while Lavanya SM from University of Horticultural Sciences (UHS), Bagalkot in Karnataka, secured the third position.

More than two thousand participants, representing 65 agricultural, horticultural and veterinary universities from across the country are vying for top honours in this four-day mega sports event being organised by the PAU after a gap of 12 years.
