UP lifts U-17 Boys School Games Volleyball title; host J&K finishes at 7th spot

Defeating formidable Haryana in straight sets (25-23, 25-17, 25-21) in the summit clash, Uttar Pradesh (UP) lifted the title trophy of the 65th National School Games Under-17 Boys Volleyball Tournament hosted by Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at new Indoor Sports Complex, MA Stadium, here on Friday.
Shifted from Khel Gaon in Nagrota to the newly created Indoor facility at MA Stadium yesterday because of the continued heavy rain, the event witnessed competition from quarterfinals stages onwards at the Indoor Stadium, here.
The third place went to Gujarat who beat Uttarakhand in a close contest 3-2, while hosts Jammu and Kashmir lost to Haryana in the quarterfinals thereby finished seventh in the championship which witnessed a participation of 34 teams.
Earlier, in the semifinals, Uttar Pradesh defeated Gujarat 3-1 (18-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-17), while Haryana got the better of Uttarakhand 3-2 (22-25, 19-25, 25-21, 25-21, 15-10).
Anshu of Uttar Pradesh was declared Man of the Tournament for his splendid performance.
Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez was the Chief Guest on the occasion, while Director General Youth Services and Sports, Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman was Guest of Honour.
Both these dignitaries distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams.
