Unified Karate Guild top the Karate Championship with 60 medals

The Unified Karate Guild annexed the best team title with a haul of 60 medals including 23 gold, 14 silver and 23 bronze medals in the 5th Kamrup (Metro) District Karate Championship which concluded at the Bhogeswari Phukanani Indoor Stadium here recently. The Hengrabari Karate Academy secured the second spot by winning 37 medals including 14 gold, seven silver and 16 bronze while Panjabari Karate Academy finished third with 22 medals including eight gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals. Samiran Sarania and Tanzin Mazumdar bagged the best karateka award in the sub-junior (8-10 years) boys and girls categories respectively. Hemphu Bongjang and Kasturika Narzary in sub-junior (11-13 years) boys and girls, Geet Gunjan Das and Ishita Kashyap in cadet (14-15 years) male and female, Jyotirshman Kashyap and Enjebee Chakma in junior (16-17 years) male and female grabbed the top honours respectively. Akash Ali and Janki Devi got the best karateka award in senior men and women categories.

The championship was inaugurated by Sharmila Deka, senior vice president of United Karate-Do Association, Assam.
