Umang upsets top seed in NR Tennis Championship

Umang Singh rallied from a set down to stun top seed Arnav Malik to enter the boys’ U-14 final in the Roots-AITA Talent Series (TS-7) National Ranking Tennis Championship at Zirakpur.

Umang lost the opening set 3-6, but fought his way back into the match with a 6-2 win in the second set. With the momentum shifting to his side, Umang overcame a resilient Malik to clinch the decider 7-5 and set up title clash with Aarush Sharma.

Second seed Sharma had an easy outing as he humbled Harwin Singh 6-2 7-5 to stay in contention for the title.

In the boys’ U-12 competition, Divyam Sharma registered a 7-6(3) 6-2 win over Shorya Jishtu to set up the final date with Daksh Kapoor, who edged out Gunnzit Singh 7-6 (2) 6-4 in the semifinal.

Top seed Sia Mahajan, meanwhile, continued her impressive run in the tournament with a 6-1 6-2 demolition of Sidhak Kaur in the girls’ U-14 semi final.
