Tisha Jasani edges Antara Rakshit in a thriller

Maharashtra’s Tisha Jasani overcame a spirited challenge from Antara Rakshit 11-3, 11-6, 9-11, 9-11, 12-10 to enter the girls’ under-13 quarterfinals at the sixth JSW all-India Sunil Verma Memorial squash open at Vashind, Thane.

Ayaz-Shailesh triumph
Ayaz Bilawala and Shailesh Daga (Greater Mumbai) proved a perfect combination as they defeated Vilas Kuvale and Yogesh Padukone 21-12, 21-11 in the men’s 45-plus final of the ‘Badminton 45’ senior State veterans’ badminton tournament, conducted by the Maharashtra Badminton Association and hosted by the Bombay Gymkhana.
Shailesh went on to clinch the men’s 45-plus singles crown too, overcoming a strong challenge from the unfancied Ashutosh Pednekar (GM) 21-9, 15-21, 21-18.
Leroy D’Sa, partnering Gautam Ashra (GM), bagged the men’s 60-plus doubles crown, setting the pace and winning rallies to come through against the Mumbai Suburban duo of Anil Kulkarni and Vivek Patil 21-14, 21-14.

Hat-trick by Himanshu
Striker Himanshu Rao’s hat-trick helped Air India Western Region beat Sellebrity SC 4-1 in a MDFA league super division match at the Goan Sports Association’s Ground, Cross Maidan.
Himanshu, who broke the deadlock in the 46th minute, scored two quick goals to take his team 3-0 up before Alok Chavan completed the tally.
FCI got past Companeroes SC 4-2 in another match.

Joga Bonito qualifies
Joga Bonito blanked Mighty Joe Young 3-0 in the city qualifiers’ final of the Neymar Jr.’s Five, a five-a-side football tournament.
Jogo Bonito, which emerged supreme among the 80 teams that competed at the Kock Football Turf, Malabar Hill, will now represent Mumbai in the National finals in March.
RFY Sports Natl. athletics
Mumbai’s best school and college athletes will be pitted against those from all over the country in the first Reliance Foundation Youth Sports National athletics championship to be held at the Sports Authority of India Centre, Kandivali, from Tuesday.
The two-day event will see more than 60 of Mumbai’s athletes from Father Agnel Multipurpose School and Junior College, Vashi; Udayachal High School, Vikhroli and Kishinchand Chellaram College vying for honours in the championship featuring 550 athletes from eight cities.
