State Open Badminton Championship begins

The five-day long State Open Badminton Championship being organised by the Young’s Badminton Club under the aegis of Jammu City and District Badminton Association, began at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here on Thursday.
The event was declared open by former Member Legislative Assembly (ex-MLA), Rajesh Gupta in a well attended function. Around 250 young participants shall compete for the top honours in five different age groups of under-10, under-13, under-15, under- 17 and under-19 years.
Earlier, General Secretary of the J&K Badminton Association, Balbir Jamwal, welcomed the Chief Guest and other distinguished gathering and thanked Rajesh Gupta for extending infrastructural (Badminton court mats) support to the game of Badminton. Chairman of the Association, Dr O.D Sharma also appreciated the former Legislator for encouraging sports.
Today preliminary round matches were played under the supervision of Organising Secretary of the championship, SAI Badminton coaches, Satpal Sharma and Vikram Saini.
