St Xavier’s triumphs

St. Xavier’s defeated St. Mary’s by three runs in the final to clinch the Sunil Gavaskar T15 cricket tournament.

Seven leading schools from across Mumbai competed in the 15-over format. The tournament was organised by St. Xavier’s High School in honour of ex-student and legend Sunil Gavaskar, as part of the year-long sesquicentennial year celebrations.

“It was wonderful to see the school boys play the new format with such energy and enthusiasm,” said the cricket maestro, gracing the event as chief guest.

St. Xavier’s principal, Jennifer Dias said: “We at Xavier’s, have a long tradition of excellence in sports. A living testimony is Sunil Gavaskar, the master batsman and ex-student of our school. “This tournament is a tribute to his remarkable achievements as a cricketer and as an inspiration to young Xavierites to do their best and be the best in sports.”

The scores: St. Xavier’s 86 for nine in 15 overs (Ahish George 45 not out) bt St. Mary’s 83 for nine (D. Yohan 46) .
Amaan stuns Udit

Top seed Udit Gogoi lost in the quarterfinals of the MSLTA Yonex Sunrise Ravine Hotel National Series u-16 tennis tournament to 12th seed A. Amaan Tezabwala.

Amaan won 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-3 in a contest that lasted over three hours.

Boys: Amaan Tezabwala bt Udit Gogoi 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-3; Krish Patel bt Aryaan Bhatia 6-2, 6-4; Divesh Gehlot bt Heerak Vora 6-3, 7-5; Sushant Dabas bt Arnav Patange 6-2, 6-2.

Girls: Bhakti Shah bt Shreya Chakraborty 7-6(8), 6-2; Sharanya Gaware bt Sanjana Sirimulla 3-6, 6-4, 6-0; Vipasha Mehra bt Aditi Are 6-0, 6-3; Swarda Parab bt Gargi Pawar 6-1, 6-4 .
Rizvi College
defends crown

Rizvi College successfully defended the title for the second successive year as its rival Thakur College conceded the match in the second innings of the two-day final of the eighth Late Saqib Rizvi memorial inter-collegiate rotating trophy cricket tournament, organised by the Junior College’s Sports Association of Mumbai under the auspices of MCA at its ground in Bandra Kurla Complex.

The scores: Rizvi 138 (Bhushan Talwadkar 34, Furquan Charoliya five for 31, Suved Parkar four for 62) & 313 for seven decl. (Aryan Bangar 116, Harshit Janwadkar 66, B. Talwadkar 44, Atharva Ankolakar 36) bt Thakur 66 (Parth Rai three for seven, Atharva Ankolakar three for 10, Vignesh Solanki four for one) and second innings conceded.
