Soham of DPS Jammu ranked 20th in World Youth Chess C’ship

Soham Kamotra (X-D), an ace level and a top FIDE Chess player from Delhi Public School (DPS), Jammu secured coveted position and stood at 20th rank in U-16 World Youth Chess Championship held in Mumbai from October 1 to 13, 2019.

Total 67 countries and 700 participants from all over the world participated in the aforesaid prestigious championship and Soham Kamtora was among top 10 chess players from India who scored 6.5 points and stood at 20th position in the world rankings. Later, he was also among the selective top players of World Champions to have been invited for the Victory Dinner at the German Consulate.

Earlier too, Soham was selected to represent India in China and Mexico in Asian Amateur Chess Championship and World Amateur Chess Championship respectively.

He is also one of the highest rated chess players of J&K State.

Principal DPS Jammu, Ruchi Chabra, staff, students, and school management congratulated Soham and his parents for the glorious achievement. She also felicitated him with a gold medal for the laurels he brought for the school.

President RCT, Ajatshatru Singh, Pro Vice Chairperson, Ritu Singh and Director, S.S Sodhi also extended their best wishes to Soham and his parents for the success.
