Sathish Sivalingam was the favourite coming into the men’s 77-kg weightlifting category and he didn’t disappoint his fans leading up to his second CWG gold. The 25-year-old lifted 144kg in the snatch and 173kg in the clean and jerk to finish with a total of 317 kg. He missed his record by 12 kg which he had achieved at Rio Olympics 2016.

Sathish became the first ever Indian male weightlifter to win gold in two different editions of the Commonwealth Games. Jack Oliver of England came second (312kg) and Francois Etoundi of Australia came third (305 kg).
