Roots-AITA: Bhumi rallies to set up summit clash with Pawandeep

Bhumi Kakkar rallied from a set down to beat Harnoor Kaur Sidhu in the girls’ U-18 semifinals in the Roots-AITA Challenge Series (CS7) National Ranking Championship at Zirakpur, Chandigarh yesterday. 

Bhumi lost the opening set 3-6, but came back strongly to win the next two sets 7-6(8) 7-6(4) to seal a spot in the final, where she will face Pawandeep Kaur.

Pawandeep had an easy outing as she drubbed Maitreyi Phogat 6-1 6-0.

In the boys’ U-18 semi final, Naresh Badgujar stunned top seed Sarthak Gandhi 5-7 6-2 7-6(4), while Amish Bansal was awarded a walkover against Dhairya Chadha.Third seed Kartik Sunil Kumar outplayed Aarush Sharma to move into the boys’ U-16 final. Sharma won 6-3 6-3. In the final, he will meet fourth seed Navya Verma, who registered a 6-2 6-1 win over Sukhwinder Singh in the semis.In the girls’ U-16 semis, Vishita edged out Anusha Sharma 6-4 6-4.
