PU weightlifters reigned supreme in Inter-University championship

Panjab University won the overall trophy in the All India Inter-University Weightlifting Championship, which concluded at Chandigarh University, Gharuan. The team scored 184 points
to win the title. Thiruvalluvar University (Tamil Nadu) claimed the second position by scoring 180 points, while the hosts finished third with 177 points.


In the 89kg weight category, Vishwajeet of Barkatullah University (Bhopal) won the gold medal.


Lokchand won the silver medal. Both lifters had lifted a total weight of 286kg but Kanwar was declared the winner on the basis of the snatch. Gurpreet Ralh from Sant Baba Bhag Singh University (Jalandhar) won bronze medal in the category.


M Sudhan of Mangalore University won the 96kg gold medal by lifting a total weight of 290kg (130kg in snatch, 160kg in clean & jerk), while Gursajan won silver by lifting a total weight of 289 kg (128kg in snatch, 161kg in clean & jerk) and Jasveer claimed the bronze medal by lifting a total weight of 288kg (129kg in snatch, 159kg in clean & jerk). In the 102kg weight category,
Phiyush of University of Delhi bagged gold by lifting a total weight of 293kg (130kg in snatch, 163kg in clean & jerk). Ajit Singh of VOSPU Jaunpur (Uttar Pradesh) won silver by lifting a total weight of 293kg (125kg in snatch, 168kg in clean & jerk), while Nivesh of University of Madras won the bronze medal by lifting a total weight of 289kg (127kg in snatch, 162kg in clean & jerk).
