Manushi Chhillar: Miss World 2017 and Project Shakti Initiator
Manushi Chhillar a beauty pageant with a great soul and a daring attitude. She is achieving many film offers from renowned people but she is waiting for right opportunity to come across. And in mean while she is just focusing on her “Project Shakti” which she started during “Femine Miss World 2017” competition for her “Purpose campaign”.
She is a trained Kuchipudi dancer and she got her training from ace dancers Raja, Radha and Kaushalya Reddy. She was born on 14th May 1997. In doctors family of Jhajjar, Haryana her father is a Dr. Mitra Basu Chhillar who is a scientist at Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and her mother is Dr. Neelam Chhillar who is an associate professor and departmental head of Neuro- chemistry at the Institute of Human Behavior and Allied Sciences. She had done her schooling from St.Thomas. And pursuing her MBBS from Bhagat Phool Singh Medical College in Sonipat.
How it all started
Her journey started from her college campus where “Fbb Campus Princess 2016” held and she was also crowned as one of the finalists. And from there, beauty contest keep on coming her way as the steps of stairs. She won “the title of fbb Femina Miss India Haryana” in April 2017. Than she represented the state of Haryana in annual the “Femina Miss India” competition and was crowned “Femina Miss India 2017” . While the competition going on she was crowned as “Miss Photogenic” and she also won the competition earning the right to represent India at the “Miss World 2017” competition.
Highlights of her life
She returned to India on 26th November as Miss World 2017, she was welcomed and press conference was held at ” St Regis Hotel, Mumbai”.
She was one of the celebrity speakers at the 2017 Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Hyderabad.
She was announced as the brand ambassador for Anaemia Free Haryana.
Her Beauty with a Purpose campaign, ‘Project Shakti’ was given government aid of Rs.18 crore, ensuring free availability of sanitary napkins for all girls in the government schools of Haryana by CM Manohar Lal Khattar.
She made an appearance in special show Super Nights With Padman to promote her Beauty with a purpose project on menstrual hygiene in association with Akshay Kumar’s Pad Man (film).
At the “World Menstrual Hygiene Day” on 28 May, she joined 100 of women in a 3km walk through the streets of Delhi, to create social awareness. The walk was organized by sustainable sanitary pad manufacturers ‘Aakar’, in association with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
On 3 July 2018, 1000 of cyclists made it to the streets of Delhi celebrating the World Bicycle Day. She stood along with the Vice President of India, “Venkaiah Naidu” and Minister of Science and Technology, “Harsh Vardhan” as they waved the flag at the starting line.
She was also India’s top trending personality on google search in 2017.
Guest speaker at the 10th C4IO by Hewlett Packard Enterprise at Pushkar.
Debut in 2018 edition of annual celebrity calendar by leading Indian fashion photographer Dabboo.
She was a judge of Miss World Philippines 2018.
She is a jury member of Miss China World 2018.
She with Haryana CM inaugurated the ‘Haryana Film Policy’ in Gurgaon.

February 2018, started “Beauty With A Purpose” tour with “Miss World 2017” continental winners and “Miss World 2016” Stephanie Del Valle at the 1st global edition of ‘Feminine Hygiene Awareness’ campaign in Hyderabad in collaboration with Govt. of Telangana. Then campaign was continued at Kolkata, where Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry hosted a special “adda” session on Feminine Hygiene. There they visit “New Light” NGO and learn to make low cost bio degradable sanitary pads at the “ Jute Industries Research Association”. They collaborate with “Aakar Innovations”, to create low cost, bio degradable sanitary napkins.

During her stay in Indonesia, Manushi visited The Golden Bridge, a Beauty with a Purpose project which was completed by Miss Indonesia 2014, Maria Rahajeng, participated in humanitarian activities and also crowned Miss Indonesia 2018, the representative of Indonesia for Miss World 2018.
After this, Chhillar along with the Miss World team landed in the British Virgin Islands. They met the governor of British Virgin Islands and worked to raise funds for the beauty with the purpose project of Miss British Virgin Islands 2017, Helina Hewlet.
The first part of her beauty with a purpose tour ended with her US visit. After returning to India, she was one of the guest speakers at The Economic Times Women’s Forum 2018.
Manushi reached South Africa to take her project on menstrual hygiene forward. Feminine hygiene machines that manufacture low cost and decomposable sanitary pads were installed in Nelson Mandela’s birthplace Mvezo. The President Cyril Ramaphosa led the official ceremony of unveiling the 1st Sanitary Pads Unit on 18 July 2018 which marked the 100th birth anniversary of Nelson Mandela. Manushi Chhillar, over whelmed by the success of her project said,
“Witnessing my project cross continents in such a short period of time is like a dream come true!
Nelson Mandela said that poor Menstrual hygiene was one of the three reasons why girls were facing inequality as compared to boys. It was an honour to inaugurate the first sanitary pad manufacturing unit set up by us in South Africa”
