Assam Football Players’ Welfare Association today appealed to the State government to reserve Nehru Stadium exclusively for football. The association will also organize a rally on February 20 to protest the deprivation of soccer in the city by different quarters.

Talking to the media persons the president and the secretary of the association Hem Das and Durga Boro said, “Current footballers in the city are suffering for lack of practice grounds. Whether it is Maligaon, Sarusajai, Nehru Stadium… or any other places, footballers are not allowed to do their daily practice. If it is continued the game would be badly suffered. So we feel the time has come to take a concrete step to solve this problem and it is the best option. It is because of that we have appealed to the government to reserve the Nehru Stadium for football only.”

They also said that a protest rally would be organized on February 20 from Guwahati Club Point to Nehru stadium. Former and current footballers will participate this rally which will be concluded at the Nehru Stadium.
