Our aim is to provide a feeder system for Indian football: Bhaichung BhutiaApril 19, 2018, Gurgaon
NEW DELHI: India’s largest football training program, the Bhaichung Bhutia Football Schools (BBFS), this month opened its first football residential academy on the campus of the Vedas International School in Gurgaon.
The sprawling campus hosts the BBFS Residential Academy, which aspires to create an environment to promote football among the school’s students and help them get the right tools and education to perform at the highest level of football in India. With a starting batch of 43 students, the academy will also ensure these youngsters receive quality education and academics training to ensure they can appear for higher studies post graduating from the academy.
The BFFS Residential Academy hopes that the steps taken now will give the academy students a platform towards achieving their goal of becoming professional footballer players with the country’s leading clubs – such as in the Indian Super League and I-League – and overseas.
The face of Indian football for over a decade and a half, and who as a player won the Nehru Cup, LG Cup, SAFF Championship (thrice) and AFC Challenge Cup, Bhaichung spoke to TOI Sports on the genesis of this academy and the road ahead.
