Oil India FC wins Bordoloi TrophyOctober 3, 2019, Guwahati
Former champions Oil India Football Club of Duliajan regained the Bordoloi Trophy. In the well contested final of the 66th Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy Football Tournament at the Nehru Stadium here this evening, Oil India FC defeated ASEB Sports Club – the Super League champions of the Guwahati Sports Association (GSA), by an aggregate of 5-2 goals via tie-breaker. During regulation 90 minutes both teams netted two goals each.
Jwambla Brahma, anticipating a square pass from Sujalal Brahma put ASEB ahead in the 10th minute. But at the fag end of the first session (45+2) Oil striker Milan Basumatary restored parity with a sharp grounder.
Sirandeep Moran netted Oil’s second goal in the 60th minute capitalising on misunderstanding among the ASEB defenders. However, it was Akrang Narzary who again hit the equaliser in the 90th minute. Oil team played the dominating role in major part of the game and created several openings. Their frontliners – Tulya Das, Milan Basumtary and F Wary put ASEB defenders Mitradev Swargiary, Maneswar Musahary, Biswanath Karmakar and Raghu Nath Boro on toes.
But Oil had to concede the first goal off a counter attack as all their players went ahead and left their danger zone open.
However, in the later stages managed to maintain balance among all departments.
In the tie-breaker, Oil India FC converted the first three through Milan Basumatary, Mandela Rongmei and Jyotish Basumatary. On the other hand, ASEB shooters Maneswar Musahary, Akrang Narzary and Jwambla Brahma squandered their turns in shootout.
Oil custodian Nihal Das was adjudged as the best player of the final by the organisers GSA while Sirandeep Moran picked the best player award of Assam Sports Journalists Association.
Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya was the chief guest in the closing function where OIL officer and former international TT player Arunjyoti Baruah was also present.
