North-Zone Badminton Championship: Anupama bags twin titles on concluding day

Anupama Upadhyaya claimed twin titles on the concluding day of the Yonex Sunrise North Zone Inter State Badminton Championship at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Sector 3, in Panchkula.

Anupama won both the women’s and U-19 finals by defeating Likhita Shrivastava. In the women’s final, Anupama defeated second seed Likhita 21-16 21-18. She followed it up with a 21-8 21-11 win over the same rival in the U-19 final.

In the boys’ U-19 category, top seed Harsh Chaplot beat Nitin Kumar 21-17 21-19. Chaplot teamed up with Shubham Patel to win the boys’ U-19 doubles title by defeating Dev Inder Singh Bagga and Eshaan Duggal 21-1521-17. Khushi Gupta and Likhita defeated Nikita and Ridhi Kaur Toor 21-16 21-15 to win the women’s doubles title. Top seed Kartik Jindal of Panchkula faced tough resistance before defeating Abhishek Saini 21-19 18-21 21-16 to win the men’s singles title. The pair of Ravi and Sakshi Gahlawat won the U-19 mixed doubles title by defeating Harsh Rana and Khushi Gupta 23-21 21-19.

Prem Singh and Priyanka Kumawat won the senior mixed doubles title by registering as stunning 16-21 21-12 21-11 win over top seeds Hardik Makkar and Shivani Santosh Singh. Dhruv Gupta and Kavya Gupta won the girls’ U-19 doubles title by defeating Sakshi Gahlawat and Tanvi Thakur 21-15 21-12. Prem and Rajesh Verwa were awarded a walkover by Gaurav Deswal and Utkarsh Arora in the men’s doubles final. Haryana’s shuttlers won four gold and three silver medals in the championship.
