Alia Singh of the city won a silver medal in the swimming event of the Khelo India Games. Alia has to participate in two more events in the competition being played in Assam. The city is also expected to win medals in both events.

Alia Singh took the silver medal after taking 1 minute 22 seconds. However, she could not give her best time. Her pace was correct in the first 50 meters, but in the second 50 meters her legs got sore, which reduced the speed. This problem occurred due to muscle soreness. On January 21, she will participate in the 50 meter breast event. On the 22nd of January, she will show strength in the 50m backstroke.

She is expected to win a gold medal in both events. Apart from Alia, Akash was also representing Delhi at Khelo India in badminton, but he could not progress past the pre quarter finals. City players are now expected to medal in judo as well. Jyotsna and Ravi, students of Noida College of Physics Education, will show their stamina on January 22.

Alia’s father Shailendra Singh said that Alia’s leg had a muscle problem during the swimming event, due to which she missed the gold. She will perform brilliantly in both the upcoming events.
