National School Games: Shahil & Anchita claim top spots at selection meetNovember 4, 2019, Guwahati
Shahil Dey of Maria’s Public School and Anchita Sharma of Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti clinched the title in boys and girls category respectively in the selection meet for National School Games Chess (U-17) organised by the Guwahati Chess Academy under the aegis of Director of Sports, Assam at Guwahati Chess Academy premises.
Shahil scored 5 points from 6 rounds and remain unbeaten throughout the tournament. Manthan Kashyap Dutta of Delhi Public School scored 4.5 points and got second position. Nihad Islam Hazarika of Maria’s Public School and Dhrupad Kashyap of Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti also scored 4.5 points each but they were declared third and fourth respectively. Achitanga Kashyap scored 4 points and got fifth position. Manish Gwra Basumatary, Uday Bhaskar Sarma and Ashvin Sharma also scored 4 points each but were declared sixth, seventh and eighth respectively on the basis of tie-break score.
In the girls category, Anchita remained unbeaten throughout the tournament by scoring 5.5 points from 6 rounds. Medha Barooah of SFS School got second position by scoring 4 points from 6 rounds. Dipnalisha Borah of Maria’s Public School and Urza Hazarika also from Maria’s Public School also scored 4 points each from the same number of rounds but they were declared third and fourth respectively on the basis of tie-break score. Baibhabi Baruah of SFS School scored 2 points and got third position.
The top five players from both boys and girls category have been selected to participate in the 65th National School Games Chess (U-17) to be held in Kolkata from November 21 to 25.
Selected players are: (Boys) Shahil Dey, Manthan Kashyap Datta, Nihad Islam Hazarika, Dhrupad Kashyap, Achitanga Kashyap. (Girls) Anchita Sharma, Medha Barooah, Dipnalisha Borah, Urja Hazarika, Baibhabi Baruah.
