ChessNational School Chess Championship

The five-day 7th National School Chess Championship 2018 conducted by the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) under the aegis of the All Odisha Chess Association (AOCA) and All India Chess Federation concluded here on Thursday.

Total 12 different categories (U-7 Boys and Girls, U-9 B and G, U-11 B and G, U-13 B and G, U-15 B and G, U-17 B and G) were played. KIIT Registrar Prof Sasmita Samanta, AOCA Secretary KK Sarma, NK Nanda Kumar and KIIT director sports Dr Gaganendu Dash attended as guests and awarded the winners of different categories.

Tashna (U-7 girls) got 7.5 points out of 9 rounds, while the first got 8.0 points. She secured 2nd rank and is selected for world schools chess championship to be held in Albania.

Only one player participated from U.P. state. Tashna also defeated top seed rated player Luxshana form Tamil Nadu.
