National Champion Dutee Chand might not make CWG tripMarch 9, 2018
The Federation Cup is over and the tense wait for CWG selection has begun. While, many have made the cut following outstanding performances at the meet, others are relying on the selctors goodwill for making it to the Gold Coast. One of the most famous athletes figures in this list. Dutte Chand, the national record holder in the 100m finds herself short of the cut to make it to the 2018 games. Although the 22-year-old won gold in Patiala on Thursday, she didn’t pass the qualifying mark for the CWG games.
“It’s unlikely that Dutee will make the cut as her performance is not anywhere near the qualification standard. If we take her then what about the others?” an AFI official said. The point to be noted here is that the ace sprinter missed the CWG 2014 event held in Glasgow as well due to a gender test.
She presented a different picture as she was hopeful of representing India in April. “The CWG qualification mark was even tougher than my personal best. But I hope they will consider my case as I have won the 100m gold in Patiala. Even ahead of the Rio Olympics it was a similar scenario before I made the cut,” Dutee said.
