Naresh beats Amish, wins title

Naresh Badgujar overcame Amish Bansal in an intense three-setter to win the boys’ U-18 title in the Roots-AITA Challenge Series (CS7) National Ranking Championship at Zirakpur today.

Badgujar won the opening set 7-6(4), but Bansal claimed the second set 7-5 to draw level. Badgujar though regained his composure to seal the decider 6-3.

In the boys’ U-16 competition, Navya Verma humbled Kartik Sunil Kumar 6-4 6-3 in the title clash.

Pawandeep Kaur humbled Bhumi Kakkar 6-4 7-5 to win the girls’ U-18 title. However, she had to face defeat in the doubles final. Pawandeep and Harnoor Kaur lost 7-6(2) 2-6 (2-10) to Maitreyi Phogat and Vanya Arora.

In the girls’ U-16 category, Vishita Jhorar edged out Anusha Verma 6-4 6-4 to set up the title clash with Bhumi, who downed Maitreyi Phogat 7-5 7-5 in the semis
