Meghalaya conquers national football title in Sub-Junior
December 5, 2019, Guwahati
Meghalaya clinched the sub-junior national football championship title after they beat Arunachal Pradesh 3-0 in the final played at the Kalyani Stadium in West Bengal.
Arunachal Pradesh had lost the final in the penalty shootout to Odisha last season before going down to their neighboring state Meghalaya this time.
Samcharphrang Lato opened the scoring for Meghalaya in the 52nd minute before Samlang Rympei (90’+4′) and Teibok Nongrum (90’+5′) extended the lead in the dying embers to seal the match.
Meghalaya started on the front foot, as they controlled the flow of the game, constantly looking to create opportunities. Their captain Colinsalmon Lyngdoh looked lively upfront, often dropping deep, to help his side gain a majority in the middle of the park and create more chances. Team never gave any space or chance to their neighbours Arunachal Pradesh and thus easily defeat them by 3-0 scoreline. Defence was rock solid during the whole game as Meghalaya’s defenders were successful in keeping the clean sheet.
