Manu Bhaker scripts history, wins gold in World CupMarch 5, 2018
16-year-old Manu Bhaker added another feather to her cap on Sunday as she clinched the Women’s 10m Air Pistol Gold at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup being held in Mexico. Bhaker, participating in her first World Cup, scored a 10.8 in the last shot of the 24-shot final, to come out on top with a score of 237.5. Ravi Kumar, another talented shooter, finished third with 217.0 to take the bronze.
Bhaker is one of the bright prospects to come out of Indian shooting and is touted to be a star for the future. Earlier, she had qualified for a place in the Beunos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games on the back of impressive performances in international tournaments. She has taken great strides in a sport that continues to bag medals for India at international events all over the world.
“I am extremely happy at winning gold, especially as this is my first World Cup. I look forward to perform even better in upcoming competitions.” Bhaker said after her win. She had also bagged a gold in the same event I the 1st Khelo India School Games organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Govt of India.
