Mahak, Siddharth emerge champions

Mahak Jain of Madhya Pradesh and Siddharth Vishwakarma of Chhattisgarh bagged the women’s and men’s titles in the AITA JVPG Anirudh Desai all-India Open tennis tournament at the JVPG Tennis courts on Sunday.
The women’s final, a contest between 16-year-olds, saw top seed Mahak fight hard to overcome the challenge of sixth seed Humera Shaikh of Telangana 7-5, 6-0. The men’s final saw Siddharth romp to a 6-2, 6-4 win against P. Vignesh of Andhra Pradesh.
The winners were richer by Rs. two lakh each while the runners-up took home Rs. one lakh each.
The results (finals): Women: Mahak Jain bt Humera Shaikh 7-5, 6-0.
Men: Siddharth Vishwakarma bt P. Vignesh 6-2, 6-4; Doubles: Anirudh Chandrasekar & P. Vighnesh bt Manish Sureshkumar & Prithvi Sekhar 6-4, 4-6, [11-9].
Mixed doubles: Niki Poonacha & Rishika Sunkara bt Paras Dahiya & Eetee Maheta 6-3, 6-4.
