Ludhiana girls secure 3rd position

Hosts Ludhiana secured the third position in the girl’s section in the 20th edition of the Sub-Junior Punjab State Softball Tournament for Boys and Girls being held here at Guru Nanak Stadium.
In the match for hard-line cup, Ludhiana proved too good for Amritsar whom they drubbed 14-4 to finish among position holders.
The final played between Gurdaspur and Fazilka turned out to be a well-contested affair in which the former warded off stiff challenge before romping home victorious 3-2 to emerge as champions.
Earlier, in the league encounters, Ludhiana defeated Bathinda 7-3; Fazilka routed Mansa 1-0; Amritsar survived a scare against Ferozepur before wrapping up the issue 10-9; Gurdaspur fought it tooth and nail to edge out Sangrur 5-4.
In the semi-finals, Fazilka survived many anxious moments before coming out triumphant against Ludhiana 5-4 and Gurdaspur toiled hard to tame Amritsar 5-3 to set up the title clash.
Pran Nath Passi, honorary general secretary, Punjab Softball Association, gave away prizes to the podium finishers. Office-bearers of district associations and coaches were present on the occasion.
