Khelo India Games: Medals from cyclists, athletes confirms Maharashtra’s position on top

With twin gold medals each in cycling and athletics, Maharashtra held on to their position at the top of the medals tally with 34 medals in the Khelo India Youth Games in Guwahati on Sunday.

Delhi, who claimed three gold through two judokas and 3000m runner Chanda, surged past Uttar Pradesh to the second spot.

Gujarat too rose to the fourth position with 14 medals, including five gold, while Madhya Pradesh was a shade behind, thanks to Ikram Ali Khan (Boys Under-21, discus throw) and Sandeep Kumar (Under-17 pole vaulter).

Haryana added two gold to their overnight two through Nuzrat Ali, the fastest athlete of KIYG 2020 after he won the Boys Under-21 100m, and Kunal Kaushik who won the Boys Under-17 shot put title.

Puja Basumatary secured Assam’s maiden gold at the Games this year by winning the Girls Under 17 57kg class title. The home State has a total of six medals so far.
