Khanna Girls and SAS Nagar wins State Basketball championship

The four-day Sub-Junior Punjab State Basketball Championship organised by Doraha Public School concluded with Khanna winning the girls’ title and SAS Nagar, Mohali, winning the boys’ title.

On the final day of the championship, league matches were played which saw key contests. In the match between Khanna and Ludhiana Academy girls, tense moments were witnessed as the match was tied after the finish of full time at 37points each.

In extra time, Khanna girls emerged victorious with the score 45-39. Ludhiana Basketball Academy bagged the second position, third and fourth positions were bagged by SAS Nagar, Mohali, and Bhatinda, respectively. In the boys section in the league matches played on the final day, SAS Nagar defeated Ludhiana Academy 40-20 and Muktsar Sahib defeated Ludhiana District 24-16. SAS Nagar, Mohali, emerged champions in boys section whereas Muktsar Sahib came second, and third and fourth positions were bagged by Ludhiana Academy and Ludhiana District, respectively.

The chief guest for the prize distribution fuction was Yurinder Singh Hayer IPS, IG Police, Punjab and Additional Director, Police Academy, Phillaur. Teja Singh Dhaliwal, senior vice-president, Basketball Federation of India; and SJP Singh, vice-president, Punjab Basketball Association, also graced the occasion.

On the sporting occasion, prominent national hoopsters hailing from Doraha, namely Pawanjot Kaur, Avneet Kaur, Simranpreet Kaur, Ridhima Saini, Tanjot Singh, Rupinder Kaur, Vishal Mehta, Nawaz Singh and Aseespreet Kaur, were felicitated by the chief guest.
