Kerala State Sports Council to organise meets for CBSE and ICSE schoolsDecember 14, 2017, Thiruvananthapuram
The Kerala State Sports Council (KSSC) has decided to conduct a sports meet for schools following the CBSE, ICSE syllabuses in the State.
The meet will also include students of Navodaya and Kendriya Vidyalaya schools following the central syllabus.
KSSC president T.P. Dasan said the move would be beneficial for students as they would get grace marks for winnings medals in competitions organised by the council.
One of the long-standing demands of schools following the central syllabuses in the State was that their students’ sports performances were not recognised by KSSC and hence they lost out on jobs and admissions to professional courses.
As a first step, KSSC will conduct a State-level athletics meet and include other disciplines in due course of time.
The athletics events will be conducted in under-14 and under-17 categories for both boys and girls.
Competitions will be held in 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, shot put, long jump, high jump, 4×100 and 4x400m relays.
The State-level meet will be held in Thiruvananthapuram on January 30 and 31, 2018.
The district-level meets should be completed before January 29 and the top two athletes from each event will qualify for the State meet.
