Katra’s Archers aims at Gold in Ranchi

Seven archers of the Shrine Board’s Sports Complex, Katra, who were part of the J&K team, brought laurels by winning 3 gold medals and one bronze medal at the 65th National School Games Federation of India (SGFI) Archery Championship held at Ranchi during 18-21 January 2020, for U-19 boys and girls.
Sunaina Devi won gold medal in the first 50 metre compound event while she also won gold medal in the second 50 metre compound event. She won 3rd gold medal for overall best in the event. Overall all, she scored 690 points out of 720. Similarly, Eklavya Ahlawat, another regular trainee of the Shrine Board’s Sports Complex Archery Coaching Centre, won bronze medal in the team event by scoring 662 points out of 720 in the compound event.
The archers of the Shrine Board’s Sports Complex who participated in the championship include Sunaina Devi, Eklavya Ahlawat, Ankush Thapa, Pankaj, Divyansh, Vishal and Sangharsh. The performances of all of them were appreciable. All of them are the regular trainees of Shrine Board’s Sports Complex Coaching Centre.
Dr. Ashok Bhan, Member Shrine Board and Chairman of Governing Council of the Shrine Board’s Sports Complex and Ramesh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board have complimented all the Archers and Kuldeep Vedwan, Archery Coach of the Shrine Board, for their excellent performance.
Ashok Kumar, Director Sports, SMVDSB said that Rakesh Kumar, a para archer of the Shrine Board’s Sports Complex and a resident of Katra, has already qualified for Tokyo Para Olympics 2020, while four archers of the Sports Complex participated in the 3rd edition of the Khelo India Youth Games 2020 at Guwahati. They are Sunaina Devi, Prawin Bashingam, Nikesa Sakhare and Dishant Singh.
