Astaqlai School from Kabul and Government Model High School, Chandigarh set up a title clash after coming through their respective semifinals on penalties in the under-14 boys competition of the 58th Subroto Cup football tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium on Sunday.

The tightly contested first semifinal saw Napoleon put the Chandigarh side ahead in the 22nd minute against Utlou Govt. HS, Manipur.

Chandigarh had more possession and attacks while Manipur was content to make occasional forays.

Even as Chandigarh appeared set to sail into the final, Manipur pulled level six minutes from time, courtesy Ajit Kumar’s strike.

While all five Chandigarh players — Pritam, Balraj, Pawan, Amandeep and L. Sibajit — scored in the shoot-out, Manipur could convert only three.

The other semifinal was a defensive affair with the teams remaining goalless in regulation time. Ali, Farid, Mahde, Gayam and Baktash got the goals in the shoot-out while Lalthaneliana, Lawmzuala, Bemrautkima and Melvin struck for Mizoram, missing one and, with it, a spot in the final that would be played on Wednesday.

The results (semifinals): Govt. Model HS, Chandigarh 6 (Napolean) bt Utlou Govt. HS, Manipur 1 (Asit Kumar) on penalties; Astaqlai, Kabul 0 bt Govt. Chawneflanga HS, Mizoram 0 on penalties .
