Junior Badminton Championship, Ludhiana; A star is born!!

The PNB MetLife Junior Badminton Championship, which was held at the Sector 38 Sports Complex, Chandigarh on Friday saw epic finals and victories of some of the best young gems on circuit.
Star performance was from Lakshaya Sharma as he clinched twin titles on the concluding day of this tournament. The Ludhiana shuttler knocked out Samarveer 15-13, 15-5 in the boys’ U-15 singles final before overcoming Gagan 15-3, 14-15, 15-10 in the U-17 summit clash. Star shuttler was hailed by many as the future prospect in the Indian Badminton to look onto.
Earlier, in the boys’ U-15 semifinals, Lakshaya drubbed Chirag Saini 15-10 15-11, while Samarveer humbled Abhay Kumawat 15-13 15-12.
In the U-17 competition, Lakshaya downed Shiven Sharma 15-9 15-9 and Gagan edged out Vidit Pundir 15-7 15-2 in the semifinals.
In the U-9 category, Aditya Tushir registered a 15-1 15-4 win over Yograj Mahi to claim the boys’ singles title, while Alisha Bhandari defeated Bhavna Chahal 15-8 15-10 in the girls’ singles title clash.
Vedant Pahwa continued his impressive run to win the boy’s U-11 title. In the final, Pahwa registered a 15-14 15-11 win over Bhanu Pratap Singh.
In the girls’ U-11 category, Snowy Goswami clinched the title after beating Gracy 15-2 15-6 in the final.
Dhruv Dutta, meanwhile, edged out Ishaan Sharma 15-10 15-10 to win the boys’ U-13 singles title. Jasmeet Kaur topped the girls’ U-13 category with a 15-8 13-15 15-13 win over Sunaina Malik in the final.
Rijul Saini overcame a resilient Kanishka Kalia to claim the girls’ U-15 title. Rijul won 15-11 14-15 15-4 in the final.
The girls’ U-17 title went to Vrinda Rana. She beat Mili Verma 14-15 15-10 15-14 in the final.
