Inter IIT Alumni Badminton Championship becomes a roaring success!

The first ever event of its kind, Inter IIT Alumni Badminton Championship was held on 24th & 25th March, 2018 in the air conditioned indoor badminton hall in Sector 21A Noida. It was organized by Alumni Association IIT Kanpur Outer Delhi Chapter. The competition saw the participation of numerous IITs all over the country. IIT Kanpur, IIT Roorkee, IIT Delhi, IIT BHU, IIT Bombay were some notable names.

A few interesting facts about the event:

  • The tournament saw participation from IIT Dhanbad and IIT Madras for the first time, with 1 player from each taking part in the competition. IIT Jodhpur and IIT Guwahati were part of the event as well with a single player from each one of them.
  • IIT Roorkee and IIT Varanasi were adjudged the “Most Enthusiastic IIT” due to their spectacular performance at the event.
  • Expectedly, IIT Kanpur had the most number of participants (45). IIT Roorkee was second with 18 players and IIT Varanasi came a close third with 17 stepping onto the court.

The competition was intense and keenly watched. All the matches were well organised and were boosted by the never ending enthusiasm of the players. There was an atmosphere of excitement and joy all around.

  • Boys Open – Winner: Samarth Srivastava (IIT Kanpur), Runners up: Saumya Sinha (IIT Roorkee)
  • Young Mens Singles Open – Winner: Mayank Sharma (IIT Roorkee), Runners up: Sumit Anand (IIT Kanpur)
  • Men’s Singles Open – Winner: Jitendra Verma (IIT Roorkee), Runners up: Sarbvir Singh (IIT Delhi)
  • Men’s Doubles – Winner: Gaurav Yadav and Mayank Sharma (IIT Roorkee), Runners up: Pradeep Mishra and Neeraj Awasthi (IIT Kanpur)
  • Mixed Doubles – Winner: Pragya Rawat and Praveen Rawat (IIT Kanpur), Runners Up: Pranjal Prasad and Asim Prasad (IIT Kanpur)
  • Senior Singles – Winner: Shalabh Goel (IIT Roorkee), Runners Up: Pankaj Rastogi (IIT Kharagpur)
  • Women’s Singles Open – Winner: Jaya Chowdhury (IIT Kanpur), Runners Up: Vanshika Gupta (IIT Kanpur)
  • Senior Men’s Doubles – Winner: P. Tewari and Anuj Varshneya (IIT Varanasi), Runners Up: Kaustav Mukherjee and Shantibrata Chatterjee (IIT Varanasi)
  • Senior Mixed Doubles – Winner: Awani Kumar and Eva Sharma (IIT Delhi), Runners Up: Rajiv Bhargava and Roopali Chaudhary (IIT Bombay)
