Pride of Noida: Shivam Mavi
Shivam while talking about his success, thanked his father Pankaj Mavi and Coach Phoolchand Sharma who always acted as his supporting pillar to achieve new heights in his cricketing career. It was never easy for Mavi to follow his dream. School at which he was studying, had never allowed Mavi any leave to play tournaments in other cities. Mavi used to skip his school by faking illness to attend such events and learn better skills about cricket.
Mavi showed great potential as a speedster, even at 8 years of age: Coach
Starting a professional cricket career at just 8 years of age, Mavi was introduced to Coach Phoolchand by his father Pankaj Mavi. Recalling initial days of Mavi in his cricket academy, Phoolchand explained that Mavi was extraordinary with the ball at such tender age, he always uses to take a run-up before bowling. Features like this helped coach Phoolchand to cheer Mavi to try his career as a speedster.
The journey from Noida’s local lanes and becoming a crucial part of India’s U-19 world cup team
Shivam’s father belongs to Meerut and they shifted from Meerut to Noida sector-71 just before the birth of Shivam. Mavi started his career in cricket after playing amongst the local guys in streets and open spaces. Many residents who used to watch with interest Mavi’s bowling performance, informed his father about his bowling skills and after listening such praises Pankaj Mavi introduced Shivam to his coach Phoolchand Sharma. Many also criticized Mavi’s deliberate try to spent most of his time in academies as cricket was just a passion for the locals, going for doctoring or engineering after studying was considered as a successful career.
