Indu Hazarika Memorial footy tourney off to colorful start

The Indu Hazarika Memorial U-19 Inter District School Football Tournament organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare got underway in Guwahati yesterday.
On the opening day of the knock-out championship, altogether 12 matches were scheduled to be played out of which only six matches were held as six district teams did not turn up.
Three venues – Nehru Stadium, Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Sarusajai and LNIPE complex, Tepesia are being used for holding the tournament where 33 district teams were scheduled to take part. But unfortunately six district teams did not send their team for the vital championship.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by senior sports scribe Subodh Malla Baruah in a function at the Nehru Stadium where Director of Sports and Youth Welfare Dharmakanta Mili and assistant director of Sports and Youth Welfare Nabajyoti Basumatary were also present.
The final will be played on February 3 at the Nehru Stadium at 2 pm.
