Hosts Ludhiana girls romp home champions

Hosts Ludhiana scored a facile victory over Sangrur to romp home as champions in the 8th Junior Punjab State Baseball Championship for Girls held at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Gill village, near here, on Saturday.

The final turned out to be a mismatch as Ludhiana came out triumphant without being challenged. They wrapped up the issue (10-0) to lift the winners’ trophy.
Karishma, Komal, Amanjot Kaur, Sandeep Pal Kaur and Kamla scored two runs each to complete the rout.

In the match for the hard-line cup, Bathinda survived many anxious moments against Amritsar before emerging victors (1-0) to secure the third position. Komalpreet Kaur was the lone scorer and steered her side to victory.

Karishma, captain of the Ludhiana team, was declared the player of the tournament.

Ravinder Singh, District Sports Officer and Harpreet Singh Gill, sarpanch of Gill village, distributed the prizes.

Others present on the occasion were Sukhdev Singh Aulakh, secretary, Punjab Baseball Association, and Harbir Singh Gill, president of Ludhiana District Baseball Association, along with Neeru, Harjinder Kaur, Gurdeep Singh, Ranjit Singh, Vaninderjit Singh and Jatindra Kumar Thakur.
