Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things and no good thing ever dies
If you have watched – one of the greatest movie of all time – The Shawshank Redemption, you might be familiar about this quote and if, by any chance you gave it a miss, go forth to watch the masterpiece directed by Frank Darabont.
Initially in one of the scenes, Morgan Freeman told the main protagonist – Andy Dufresne and I quote ‘Hope is dangerous thing, Hope can drive a man Insane’ a dialogue that was impactful enough in the voice of Morgan Freeman to bring shivers down your spine. Somehow, when we first heard it we believed it. We accepted it as we always do when someone in our society tells us to stop dreaming and be realistic in life. But that’s where we are wrong! And that’s what Andy proved in the end by escaping to freedom through five hundred yards of shit smelling foulness and then coming out clean. He later tells Morgan in his gruff voice in the background – ‘Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things and no good thing ever dies’.
Well there come a lot of times in life when you feel low, helpless and completely redundant. During those misfortunes and adversity, people will tell you things, de-motivate you to a point where you yourself would stop believing in you. And remember that’s the end of the road for you. Once you give up on your dreams and hopes, you become worthless and aimless. So keep hoping and dreaming relentlessly to a point where you achieve your goals, even if there comes numerous hurdles and you feel wrecked. I guess another Morgan Freeman’s dialogue would be the most apt one to compend my lines – If you got a dream, you gotta protect it.
