Hockey Nationals: UCO bank edges Patiala’s girls; marches into semi-final

Patiala girls crashed out of the 10th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship 2020 (B Division) after they went down fighting to UCO Bank Women’s Hockey Academy in the quarterfinals at Kollam, Kerala, yesterday. The side lost 1-2.
Patiala were the first to score as Taranpreet Kaur converted a penalty corner in the 10th minute. However, the bankers drew parity through Priya in the 23rd minute.At the start of the third quarter, UCO Bank took the lead after Sonam scored a field goal in the 31st minute. The bankers then held on to the lead to finish the match 2-1 and secure a place in the semifinals, where they will meet Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), who thrashed Goans Hockey 10-1 earlier in the day.
The SSB opened their account through Preeti in the 5th minute. The player took her tally to nine goals in the tournament as she added three more to her kitty (12th, 38th, 39th) to put the opponents on the back foot.Ekka Maxima (28th, 59th) and Devi Longjam Bijeta (51st, 58th) scored a brace each, while Anjika (23rd) and Manisha (41st) struck a goal each for the SSB. Nikita Naik (50th) scored the only goal for Goans Hockey.
In the second quarterfinal, Bengaluru Hockey Association beat Hockey Gujarat 5-1. Bengaluru Hockey Association took the lead in the second quarter of the match as B Madhumathi scored in the 19th minute. The forward completed her hat-trick as she scored again in the 32nd and 56th minutes. Anjali Dharamveer (44th) and Sandra S (45th) also joined the party, scoring a goal each. Rinku Prajapti (42nd) scored the consolation goal for Gujarat.
