Deepak Lather used to love ferrying sacks as a young kid growing up in his village in Haryana. Little did he know that this would one day help him make his mark on the world stage. The 18-year-old, competing in his first Commonwealth Games, dominated the men’s 69kg category before settling for bronze in the last lift.

Lather recorded a total of 295kg (136kg in snatch and 159kg in clean and jerk) to claim the third spot. Gareth Evans of Wales won the gold with a total lift of 299 kg (136kg in snatch, 163kg in clean & jerk) and Sri Lanka’s Indika Dissanayake with 297kg (137kg in snatch, 160kg in clean & jerk) took the second spot.
