Green land students rises at top in district tourneys

Students of Green Land Convent School, Sector 32, Chandigarh Road branch, performed well to finish among position holders in different games during the district-level tournaments organised by the Punjab Education Department.
For their outstanding performance, some of these students were also selected to participate in the state championships. Vinita Sanan, principal of the school, said Arshpreet Singh of Class VIII secured gold medals in the U-14 category in 100-metre butterfly and freestyle events in the district school swimming championship held at PAU while Ravinoor Singh of Class VII clinched silver medals in the same age group in 50-metre breaststroke, backstroke and 100-metre butterfly events.
In chess, Niharika, Jasleen, Taranjot Kaur and Angel, all students of Class IX, proved their mettle, winning top honours in the U-19 section in the competition held at Hargobind Public School, Thakkarwal village. Similarly, Laksh Arora, student of Class IX, represented the district school squad (U-19) in the volleyball tourney held at Govt Sr Sec School, Sangrur, wherein Ludhiana emerged winners.
Green Land Convent School girls U-17 team comprising Mridul Thakur, Aashiya Puri and Sunaina, all students of Class IX, finished as runners-up in the table tennis tournament held at DCM Presidency School, whereas in the boys’ section (U-14), school team with Mayank Sharma, Prabal Singh and Jagjivan, students of Class VIII, secured third position in this tournament.
Mridul Thakur (table tennis), Laksh Arora (volleyball), Niharika, Jasleen and Taranjot (chess) while Arshpreet Singh and Ravinoor Singh (swimming) were selected for the Punjab State School Games.
