GNDU Amritsar reigned supreme in Inter-University Fencing

The formidable side of famous Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) Amritsar on Wednesday retained the overall championship trophy when they secured highest 34 points in the All India Inter-University Fencing (Men) Championship which was organised by University of Jammu (JU) under the banner of Association of Indian Universities (AIU) in Jammu. 

With equal 11 points each in their respective accounts, BR Ambedkar University Aurangabad and Shivaji University Kolhapur remained second and third spot respectively.

Advisor to the Lt. Governor, Farooq Khan was the Chief Guest, who awarded the title trophies and other individual prizes. Vice Chancellor, JU, Prof. Manoj K. Dhar presided. 

Speaking to the gathering, Farooq Khan congratulated the organisers for organising such type of sports events, which will provide an opportunity to the students of the various universities to come closer to each other besides showing their sports talent. 

He also appreciated the mass participation of the players and officials accompanying their teams of the various universities. 

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Manoj Kumar Dhar, while congratulating the winning teams, said that sports activities help engage the energy of the youth in a positive manner. 

“Sports and games help in large muscle coordination resulting in physical fitness apart from inculcating sportsmanship, leadership, unity, competitive spirit among the students,” he said. 

Earlier, Director, Sports and Physical Education, JU, Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba presented the report of the event. He disclosed that around 600 fencers, representing 63 teams from the various universities across the country, took part in this event.
