Full card will help me plan better: Aditi Ashok
November 7, 2017
BENGALURU: After a sensational start to her professional career last year on the Ladies European Tour (LET), Aditi Ashok may not have replicated the run in her rookie season on the mother of all tours – Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) – this year.
The 19-year-old Aditi now returns to the scene of her maiden LET success last year – the DLF golf course. Aditi felt that she needed to work on her game individually and just focus on tournaments.
Excerpts:
Finally, success after a long and arduous year…
Yes, it has been a long season and I haven’t played as well as I had expected but it’s good to get a win. And I will go into the Indian Open this week with confidence and knowing that my game is in the right place.
We can’t rule out another back-to-back title triumphs in only your second year as a pro, can we?
I won back to back tournaments last year and I’d love to repeat that but I don’t want to get ahead of myself, I want to focus on each day and do my best.
You had a sensational rookie season on the LET last year, but didn’t enjoy a similar success on the LPGA?
My rookie year on the LPGA was good too but I never got four good rounds together in one event which is what I needed.
And you were playing against stronger fields and the best in the world?
It is great to compete with the best players in the world and all this experience will definitely help me next year.
Despite the odds – you only had a conditional card (fewer events) and were playing on newer courses each event – you did well to secure a full card for 2018…
I started the season knowing that I had a conditional status and so I tried my best in the events I had on hand. I also got majors based on my LET performances and that helped too. But I had played better by the second re-ranking and so I started getting into more events. But having a full card will definitely help me plan better for next year.
