Friendship Trophy: 1st match ends in a draw

The first match of the five-match Friendship Trophy Series match between Assam and Surjo Torun Club of Bangladesh ended in a draw at the ACA Stadium in Barsapara, Guwahati yesterday. The next match will be played on August 30.

However, Assam took a massive 163-run lead in the match as in reply to Assam’s 325 for seven declared, the visiting team were all out for 162.

Surjo Torun Club (Bangladesh) 162 (Mohai Minul Khan 53, Mukhtar Ali 34, Mustafa Al Maruf 30; Arup Das 3/20, Abu Nechim Ahmed 2/41, Pritom Das 3/31, Jitu Moni Kalita 2/31).

Navajyoti club leads GSA Super division football league

Navajyoti Club maintained the top spot in the table of the RG Baruah GSA Super Division Football League with 11 points from five matches. At the Nehru Stadium in Guwahati, Navajyoti defeated Gauhati Tow Club (GTC) 2-1. They won three and drew two so far in the league. GTC is at fifth spot with five points from as many outings. EHO Kamara put Navajyoti ahead in the 15th minute while Binan Singh fired the equaliser in the 21st minute.

The match winning goal for Navajyoti was scored by Arshal KP in the 47th minute.
