Education Dept announces annual sports calendar

The inter-school championships for various sports disciplines will commence here from next month.

As per the annual sports calendar released by the UT Education Department on Friday, the department will conduct inter-school competition for badminton (U-14), ball badminton (U-14, U-17, U-19), baseball (U-14), chess (U-14), fencing (U-14), cricket (boys U-14), artistic and rhythmic gymnastics (U-14), netball (U-14), squash (U-14,U-17,U-19) and table tennis (U-14) from August 1.

In second stage, which begins from August 23, the department will conduct badminton (U-19), basketball (U-14), baseball (U-17, U-19), chess (U-17, U-19), cricket (U-19), fencing (U-17, U-19), football (U-14), handball (U-14, U-17, U-19), kabaddi (boys U-14 and girls U-17), kho-kho (girls U-14 and boys U-17), tennis (U-19), roller hockey (U-19), swimming (U-14, U-17, U-19), table tennis (U-17, U-19), taekwondo (U-14) and volleyball (U-14).

The department will conduct archery (U-14, U-17, U-19), badminton (U-17), basketball (U-17, U-19), cricket (U-17), cycling (U-14, U-17, U-19), football (U-17), gymnastics (U-17, U-19), hockey (U-14, U-17, U-19), judo (U-14, U-17, U-19), kabaddi (U-19, U-14), tennis (U-14, U-17), netball (U-19), riffle shooting (U-14, U-17, U-19), softball (U-14, U-17), taekwondo (U-17, U-19), volleyball (U-17), freestyle wrestling (U-14, U-17) and Greco Roman wrestling (U-17, U-19) from October 3 onwards, while in the last stage from October 23, they will conduct boxing (U-14, U-17, U-19), football (U-19), kabaddi (U-17, U-19), kho-kho (U-17, U-19), netball (U-17), softball (U-19), skating (U-11, U-14, U-17, U-19), volleyball (U-19), freestyle wrestling (U-19), weightlifting (U-17, U-19) and yoga (U-14, U-17, U-19) championships.

The annual athletics meet in U-14, U-17 and U-19 age-groups is scheduled to be held in the fourth week of November.
