Delhi Daredevils (DD) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 34 runs in an IPL 2018 game at the Feroz Shah Kotla on Friday. Asked to bat, the hosts rode on contributions from Rishabh Pant (38), Vijay Shankar (36*) and Harshal Patel (36*) to post 162/5. For visitors, Lungi Ngidi took two wickets. In reply, Ambati Rayudu’s fifty kept CSK’s chase on track but brilliant spells from spinners Amit Mishra (2/20) and Sandeep Lamichhane (1/21) helped DD seal their fourth win in the tournament. Shreyas Iyer: “We were craving for this victory. Really satisfying victory. Lived up to the expectations. Wasn’t easy to bat on this wicket, Harshal delivered, that last over was very important to get us to 163 (162). We were never lacking preparations, we were just not able to execute. All three clicked together in the games that we’ve won.”
MS Dhoni: “Wicket got more difficult in the second half. Nobody was middling it, the bowlers bowled well. Difficult to predict how this pitch will behave. You have to be very practical about why something went wrong. We know the reasons. It’s important not to look at the points table. The middle-order can also get a partnership. Anyone can get an opportunity. Need to be mentally prepared, more than physical.”
