Cheniram wins Chess title

Cheniram Pegu of Dibrugarh clinched title in 43rd All Assam Inter District Chess Championship-2021 (Senior) by scoring 7.5 points from 8 rounds. In the final round Cheniram beat former Champion Trailokya Nanda of Jorhat. Santanu Borpatra Gohain of Sivasagar got second position by scoring 6.5 points from same number of rounds. Shantanu beat Nihad Islam Hazarika of Guwahati in the eighth round. Rajdeep Das and Iftikar Alam Mazumder- both from Cachar- also scored 6.5 points but declared third and fourth respectively on the basis of tie-break score. In the final round Rajdeep beat Nilabh Jyoti Barthakur of Jorhat and Ifitiakr beat Rakesh Chakraborty of Jorhat. These four players are selected to represent Assam in National Senior Chess Championship. Abhra Jyoti Nath of Cachar, Mayank Chakraborty of Guwahati, Soram Rahul Singh of Cachar, Sashanka Shandilya of Darrang, Dhruv Phukan of Dibrugarh and Anurag Pritam Medhi of Sivasagar scored 6 points each and placed fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth position respectively.
