Aruna Reddy and Ashish Kumar to lead India’s Gymnastics hopes at the CWG
March 21, 2018
India is by no means a powerhouse in gymnastics, however, there is still light at the end of the tunnel. After Dipa Karmakar’s extraordinary performance to bag the 4th position in the final of the women’s vault at the Olympic Games in 2016, expectations from the sport have increased dramatically.
A total of 20 gold medals are up for grabs at various events in gymnastics – artistic as well as rhythmic. India would be looking to improve on its 2014 performance in Glasgow where it bagged a solo bronze. Aruna Reddy is the latest sensation to look out for. The 22-year-old became the first Indian to bag a medal at the Gymnastics World Cup.
Another hopeful is veteran gymnast Ashish Kumar. He has won a bronze in the floor exercise and a silver in the men’s vault at the 2010 CWG in New Delhi.
Although a medal is not expected from Rakesh Patra and Pranati Das, their participation would be the key in the team events.
